Support for Emotional & Social Development

Etherley Lane Nursery School provides a high level of support for any children with social and emotional needs. Often these needs are identified by parents before a child starts nursery, and we work closely alongside parents to ensure a smooth transition into nursery for example shorter sessions until the child is more comfortable in the nursery environment. We plan group time activities around the learning area of Personal, Social and Emotional Development, where children are encouraged to express their feelings and support each other. We also have a Woodland Nurture group to support identified children in building friendships and developing social skills.

We ensure that the views of children are listened to through circle time, and our keyworker system ensures that practitioners are highly attuned to any changes in behaviour which may indicate any changing needs in this area.
